Why Sunday School for Kids

Why is Sunday School Important for you Child

Many parents wonder about the value of Sunday School. We measure it against the hassle of getting up earlier on Sundays and getting everyone to church on time—is it worth the trouble? Can’t kids learn about God in lots of ways anyway?

The very best place for children to gain knowledge about God is from the way parents live the Gospel in their daily lives. Kids learn from what we do more than from what we say.

Of course, we also know that being parents is hard work and we’re not perfect at it. Often we short change the children in the realm of spiritual life, thinking they will get it someplace.

While it is true that we can encounter God at work in nature, in other people and in quiet prayer, these encounters rarely transform people unless they have had experience with the Bible, worship, and other learning about the faith of Jesus Christ.

Sunday School provides essential building blocks for faith life—-

Just as children learn to read by becoming acquainted with letters, sounds, spelling and associating these with ideas, so too, children learn to experience God by experiencing stories about God’s action in human history that come from the Bible. As they learn about other people who have encountered God, they too become open and receptive to experiences of God in their own lives. Sunday school offers this opportunity!

Sunday School offers Models of people living in the Christian Way—

Children are often very receptive to prayer. They are open to talking with God and listening to God communicate to them. They are also able to experience God in the ways other people act. Sunday School offers opportunities for help with prayer and models of Christian life.

Sunday School Forms Spiritually Vital People

Our children come into the world with their own uniqueness, but they are molded and shaped—formed—by many factors: parent action, emotions, speech; the relationships they have with other adults; what they see on TV, on the street, in the store, and even by what they eat. Is your child being formed into a Christian or some one who is just a product of mass marketing? Sunday School gives your child and you a chance to form into spiritually grounded Christians who know, love and want to serve Christ .

The Choice is yours, the effect is in your child’s life—

Missing a week of Sunday School may not matter, but a child who does not experience Sunday School regularly is missing out on the greatest gift God has to offer the world. As parents, don’t we want the very best for our children? Then let them learn the faith, so that they will know personally the love of Christ and the hope faith offers. Without this, our children are left to wander in the spiritual desert.
